Like many Olympic sports with ancient roots, waterpolo evolved from the great and proud history of men in a watering hole propelling themselves back and forth in order to get the ball inbetween two wooden posts. As societies developed and leisure time became more available waterpolo became a popular recreational activity especially in Europe.  A number of years after this time (100 years or so!!!!) Davor Carevic came to NZ to become a coach at North Harbour Water Polo Club and brought his wife Katarina with him. For a club of our size, it was a huge call and one the club have never doubted. During his time with North Harbour, Davor has won several NZ titles, one of the greatest being 2002 when both our men and women won the senior nationals. We can well imagine his wall at home being filled with numerous medals from events over the years.  After many years Davor is hanging up his whistle at North Harbour knowing he can walk away holding his head high after some world class performances.

Davor played a major role in many wins within our club over the past years and notably last season the men walked away with the supreme title to be National Champions in 2016. Davor is leaving this club to carry on towards other things but is very content with what he has achieved over his time with us. As a coach you pour your heart and soul into the sport and there is always the desire to go better so we hope to see Davor continue to climb to the top of whatever he decides to do. As many of his senior men would say “Davor has achieved much and we are proud of his achievements as he should be proud as well”

It is exciting to see the club is in a really good position, they have high numbers of participants and a large contingent of NZ players and this comes from Davor  building some solid programmes over the years. We wish Davor all the best in his new ventures and no doubt will catch him poolside.
